Scholarships

Thomas Jefferson believed that democracy wouldn't work unless poor but worthy students had access to a quality education. At Whopp Sports™ we couldn't agree more. Through the sale of merchandise and hosted sporting events, we'll help raise needed scholarship funds for deserving students.

Rising Tuition:
For more than two decades colleges and universities across the country have increased their tuition four times faster than inflation rates, even faster than increases in gasoline prices or healthcare.

In 1988 it cost $12,811 to attend George Washington University located in Washington D.C. That price included tuition as well as room and board. In 2008 GW's tuition along with room and board soared to $52,997.

College costs are spiraling wildly out of control making it almost impossible for deserving students to enter an institution of higher education. Compared with two decades of runaway tuition prices, previously worrisome jumps in healthcare and energy costs look lame.

On average, the price of a private college is about four times that of a public university. And while there are plenty of exceptions, good schools can command higher tuition than their less-celebrated peers. Tuition alone can reach nearly $40,000 annually at some private colleges.

Higher Education:
When they say HIGHER education, they really mean it. In 1988 tuition with room and board at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY was an affordable $16,960. Today you'll pay nearly $50,000 for the privilege to attend this institution.
"Like anything else, it's supply and demand," With more students graduating from high school and a college degree considered essential to securing a good job, colleges are able to charge more for their services.

But supply and demand can't begin to explain cost increases of this magnitude. If the usual rules applied tuition would eventually stop rising because families would cut back enrollment especially at the most expensive private schools just as they curtailed consumption of gas once gas prices hit $4.00 a gallon.

Colleges would then be forced to cut cost or entrepreneurs would flood the market with lower-cost alternatives. But for the most part-all those invitations you see to get your degree online notwithstanding-that hasn't happened. The college experience is something that an online course can never replace. Along with receiving their degree, students can make new friendships which will be among the most satisfying and long-term of their life.

Social activities is also a big part of college life. Exploring a fraternity or sorority, supporting your schools athletic teams, eating at the campus and town hot spots and attend clubs and bars frequented by students.

Going to college is as much about finding out who you really are as it is about getting that degree.

At Whopp Sports, we'll provide full and partial scholarships for selected academic students who meet our requirements. This is our way of making a difference in the lives of many who would otherwise not be able to further their education.

A portion from each sale of our website merchandise will go directly into our scholarship fund account. We are currently in negotiations with several marketing campaigns which will greatly give our company worldwide exposure. In the near future Whopp Sports will host sporting events which will also help raise much needed money for our scholarship programs.

2007-2008 College Tuition Chart:
