OVERVIEW:
10
BRACKET $50,000 TOURNAMENT
This event is a one day competition on a date Date
TBD. The competition will extend from 8 am to 10 pm on the day of the event.
The event will
consist of 2,000 participants paying an entree fee of $95. Participants will be divided equally into
10 brackets.
The
top 3 scorers in each bracket will advance to the finals
to compete for the Grand Prize. The overall
leading scorer in each
bracket will receive a $500 bonus. If there is a tie score
between one or more contestants at the end of a bracket round,
then a "do or die" tie breaking system would
be implemented between tied players to determine the winner of
that bracket. The same rule applies in the finals.
Participants
50 and over, as well as women competitors will be placed
in two of the 10 brackets. This will insure that three females
and 50+ contestant will be placed in
the finals and have a chance to compete for the grand
prize.

given the chance to make as many 3-point shots as
possible from the top of the key at a range of 19ft 9 inches
before missing five shots in any order.
Example:
If you make
3 baskets, then miss
2, make
4 more shots then miss
3 you will be given a score of
7.
The idea make as many baskets as you can before missing a
total of five shots.
THE FINALS: 25 SHOT ONE MINUTE ROUNDS
The final
30 completers
will then compete for the Grand Prize of $20,000. Each
shooting round will last 1 minute with a maximum of 25
balls to be shot. (5) racks each with (5) basketballs will
be placed around the perimeter of the high
school/collegiate 3-point line (19 feet, 9 inches).
The
racks will be placed as follows: Left baseline,
right-key, top of the key, left-key, and right baseline.
Each made basket will count as 1 point. The last ball in
each rack is the "Whopp" ball (different color).
Each successful shot with a "Whopp" ball is worth
2 points.
The maximum amount of points for each 25 shot round is 30
points. Cash prizes
as well as trophies and awards are given to the top scorers in each
bracket, as well as to the overall first, second and third
place finishers in the final
round of the competition.
FINALS
SHOOTING
PROTOCOL / SHOOTING AND SCORING RULES:
In
the finals,
when instructed,
participants will shoot as many balls as possible during
the 1 minute. All participants will be required to start
shooting at the left baseline. The "Whopp" ball
must be the last ball shot in each rack. Any participant
shooting the "Whopp" ball before the end of the rack will
receive zero points for that ball regardless if whether or
not it was made. When the whistle blows for a second time, the
round is finished. Any balls still on a rack or in the
hands of the participant will not count. The ball must
clearly be out of the participant’s hands before the
buzzer sounds to count. The appointed referee will make the
determination and his/her ruling is final.
Participants must be
behind the 3-point line for any made baskets to count.
Appointed referees will be responsible for enforcing this
rule. If a participant’s foot/toe is on or over the
line, the basket will not count. At the end of the round,
the referee will communicate any shots that are void as a
result of being on or over the line.
DISPUTES/APPEALS
REGARDING SCORING
Any disputes or appeals
regarding a participant’s score must be made by the
participant directly to the referee immediately following
a participant’s shooting round. Once a score has been
officially logged, no appeals will be permitted.
Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a
sportsmanlike manner. No appeal of a referee ruling may be
disputed or appealed (i.e., foot over the line, shot clock
violation). Participants must leave the floor as
instructed by the referee or officials. Failure to do so
may result in being penalized 2 points, or in the
forfeiture of the entire shooting round and a score of
zero being applied.
TIEBREAKERS
FOR QUALIFYING AND FINAL ROUND
In the event one
or more participants tie for in the final round a
head-to head "Do or Die"
match from the top of the key will
be held to determine the winner.
*
"Do or Die" In
a Do or Die match contestants with tie scores line up at
the top of the Key approximately 19feet 9 inches and take
turns shooting the basketball. If the first shooter with
the tie score makes his basket the next contestant will
also be given the opportunity to make his shot. If the
next contestant misses, then the person making the first
shot will be declared the winner. If there are multiple
contestants with the same score the same rule applies. Q&A's|
